Choosing your first mushroom grow kit
Start with the format that fits your space, your time and the amount of preparation you want to do.
Choose the starting point
A ready-to-grow kit and a bag of grain spawn are different starting points. Read the contents before comparing prices: a kit may include a prepared growing block and instructions, while spawn is intended for a further growing project. Check the exact listing rather than assuming that everything shown in an illustration is supplied.
Find a suitable place first
The RHS notes that many gourmet mushroom kits need light and a position away from direct sun. The precise conditions depend on the species and product. Read the supplied temperature, ventilation and care guidance before choosing where the kit will live.
Compare the actual format
Check the species, pack size, included accessories and dispatch status. The weight of a growing block is not a promise of that weight in harvested mushrooms. A larger pack and a lower unit price can be useful comparisons, but only when the products have the same purpose and specification.
Check the whole delivered price
At Canopy, choose the available format, add your items to the basket and enter your address once at checkout. Current stock and delivery are checked for the complete basket. Ask our team if a listing leaves the contents or intended use unclear.
